You might want to investigate why none of the top-end cameras use AA batteries.

To the OP - don't worry all safari outfits have power either at base camp or generators. They know people need to recharge batteries.

Most better DSLR's have battery grips available that can accept AA's if you feel a real need to use AA's. I'd much rather use lithium ions than carrying around sets of AA's (I already carry enough AA's around for my flashes, which is 24 AA's, which take up a ton of space in my bag).
