I heve been thinking of buying my 9 year old a digital camera for Christmas. All the so called "children's" cameras are too babyish for him, yet I don't want to spend a mint and have it go to flag football practice. It has to be simple to use, so frustration is limited, small, and rugged so I can allow him to take it on his many adventures. Any suggestions?

You might want to look at an Olympus FE-115:
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_...fe115_pg5.html The Canon A530 is really a better camera: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_.../a530_pg6.html The Canon will give better picture quality. But I think the Olympus might be a bit more rugged. And it is very easy to use for beginners. |

The cameras that were mentioned before are great cameras for ease of use and ease on the pocket book, but as with any digital camera....if the 9 year old drops it, gets water on it, and does not take care of it, it will break just as easy as any other digital camera. That's a lot of money wasted if he breaks it within a year of owning it.
