I always use a dslr (5D and 50D with L lenses), but I am going on vacation to Maui, Hawaii in a few weeks and don't really want to lug all my gear around for a week. Also concerned for the safety of my gear. So i have been looking at the Canon G12 and the S95. I was about to buy a G12 but now I'm leaning toward the S95. I like the controls on the G but like the size of the S. I need users impressions after a few months use of each. Please help me out. Canon has refurbished S95s for $319.00. Thanks.

Hmm, I've just returned from a week's vacation. I took the 5D2 and a couple of lenses, but hardly used it at all. Much too big and heavy!
My wife had her S90, which was great as usual. But the camera which never left my side, and hardly left my hand was my Fuji X100. Certainly my ultimate vacation camera. |

there is something to be said for compact, easy to carry with you. And the s95 it a little better in lower light, with f2 vs 2.8 of the G. Could come in handy on vacation.
