it will be used for taking photos mostly outdoor....of the family....couples/small groups
there will be indoor images too...
the need of taking another batteries doesnt sounds that good...but if there's no choice..

I've been following this thread as my interests are similar, I like the features of the Canon Power Shot S2IS. My main concerns are a quick frame capture (low shutter lag time), as well as high optical zoom. The benefit of the camera's SD card works for me cause my other 2 cameras use that.

Any advice on this choice? I'd like to spend less than $500.
