Does it make any difference wheather it is a Japaneese or American model?

It has to do with warranty. A Japanese camera will have to probably be sent to Japan for warranty repairs. It might not be accepted by your local authorized Canon repair shop.

Thank you! I think it was a sales pitch. They wanted me to call so they could tell me about the more expensive model.

Boy I've heard stories about those kind of places. Betcha it was a NewYork shop.There is a good section on where to buy at dcrp's forum.

I also read that some places sell you the camera and that's it! All manuals and included acessories cost extra.

I really like Amazon, Free shipping no tax and sign up for their credit card and you get to immediately use it on your first purchase and save $30 more. Their price is $310- $30= 280.

I've bought a dozen or so stuff with them ranging from CD's to vacuum cleaners and have been very happy with them so far.
