I would really appreciate some help on this one as the cannon hasthe edge in terms of MP but the KM has the anti shake I just cant choose! and I cant afford both!

• ease of use for someone new to dslr's

Dynax 5D + 18-70 AF lens = £476

Canon Eos-350D + EFS 18-55mm lens = £460

Yep, I've got same choice, but going for the KM 5D because of the reviews of the excellent picture quality in difficult lighting conditions and the AS feature as bonus in low light/telephoto situations. I don't think the MP issue comes into it for me as I only do minimal cropping. If the 350D was a 10MP camera, I may have to think again! I think with a good CF card (Extreme 3), the shot to shot/buffer differences should be minimal.

If you're into shooting in low light level conditions, the KM 5D surely makes sense. I own a Canon 350D/XT and don't particularly like it. The grip is very pinched and cramped and the viewfinder (a penta mirror, NOT a penta prism) for me wearing glasses is terrible.

Go with the KM 5D you will be happier and you will have ISO 3200 available to you instead of the max ISO 1600 on the Canon 350D/XT.

KM has a wide ranged of AF lens on used market. As KM's AF mount has not changed from their film to digital counterpart, every single KM(or more appropreately, Minolta)"AF" or "Maxxum" lens will work on either the 5D or 7D. Some newer lenses incorporated the ADI function to assist accurate flash, and the older use lens will lack that(traditional TTL method will be used in those case). So far I've got 4 lens and only 1(the 18-70 kit lens) is new. The older lenses are usually better in built quality as unlike the modern one they tend to be of metal barrel and full glass element. The downside is that they tend to be bulkier and heavier. But they definitely don't lack in quality. Once you know what sort of range and focal length(and money you are willing to pay)you want you can probably find a used lens in that range. Like other manufacturer they also have their range of new glass as well, and then there are the most expensive lens for Minolta, the G-series, which is like Canon's L-series. I've heard at that level Canon is cheaper to buy...

For info, KM (UK) results I requested for continuous shooting modes:

The framing rate of the Dynax 5D when set to continuous mode is 3 frames

per second. The recording will stop when the buffer memory becomes full.

The following figures are approximate.

Raw: 5 frames.

Raw+ JPEG: 3 frames.

Large: Extra Fine 3, Fine 10, Standard 24

Medium: Extra Fine 9, Fine 40, Standard 470

Small: Extra Fine 314, Fine 584, Standard 926.
