Basically, I lost (well this girl I was with I'm pretty sure took) my Kodak LS753 camera. Kodak said they will not be making this camera anymore, because of a new lineup that they are coming out with.

I have been looking around, and I would like to spend about 300 on a camera. I was thinking about the new Kodak V550, I could get that for about 285 shipped new. Also, the price on the Sony DSC-T1 has come down quite a bit, but I know the flash on that camera is sub-par, and has expensive memory media.

So, could anyone possibly throw me in the direction? I might take another look at the Optio line, but really just wanted an opinion on that V550 because it looked pretty slick. Battery life could be a problem however.

Candidates include: Casio EX-Z50, and Pentax Optio S5i.

Also, I can get another LS753 for 200, probably less if my friend can use his discount.. would this be a smarter choice for the long run?

Edit: Also looking at the Fuji Z1 @$250.00

Just out of curiosity, where do you buy V550 for 285 shipped? :)

They post daily deals on computer components...

Most Recent one was this: Kodak V550 (From Dell) @ 399.99

Coupon: -20%
Coupon: -30.00 (Stackable)

399.99 - 20% = 79.99--> 319.99 - 30.00 = 289.99

289.99 (Sorry) Dell = Free Shipping over $50 in Electronics + Accessories.

the coupon doesn't apply to the kodak 550

sci0n Jul 18, 2005 4:38 PM

actually, it does, i applied to it this weekend and i was going to buy it but i didnt have any info on it (and neither did google)

i presume they either:
1) pulled it
2) the coupon met its 2000 user limit

that's probably what happened. thanks for the info, though! i'm using it to get the canon sd400.

good deal man, glad it helped you out in the end

after about 3 hours of looking yesterday, i managed to find my LS753

thread can be closed, or open for talk about the v550

wow i was looking at the v550 today and almost bought it from Dell, found coupon codes in for the Canon and Kodak cameras for 20 % and could not make it work for the Kodak, only the Canon SD400. 289.00 would be an awesome price for that camera. I guess like the other poster experienced, the coupon must have expired for the Kodak.

anyone have any opinons on the V550 vs. the SD400 ???

sci0n Jul 20, 2005 6:01 AM

Since the SD400 has been out for some time, I would imagine that the Kodak is a little more "up to date."

I have never used a Canon digicam, but I do have a Kodak LS753 and love the thing (well, had). The only downside to the V550 is the battery. I called Kodak and they said you can only squeeze about 150 shots out of it per battery, but wouldn't elaborate if that was with or without the LCD.

Battery life is a major issue for me when it comes to cameras. So that is the only downside to the V550 that I can see. Sorry about not being able to post more usefull information.

In the same boat, pretty much the same short list. I'm aiming at the Pentax S5z as it is a little cheaper, being out a little longer. Very similar specs. The Kodak is definitely right there with it and adds an optical viewfinder (not a priority to me).

Also, as others have said the SD400 would be an excellent choice. I have had the first digital Elph from canon (S100) since it first came out and have not had a single problem with nearly 3000 shots taken. But the SD400 does not have"sports" or "snow" modes, which I would like to fool with.

The new Casio S500 is probably in line feature-wise and is certainly small enough. though will probably stay higher in price than the others, just will have to pay for it's tiny size...
