Does anyone know of any long zoom (8x or more) camera that useMPEG4 video feature (other than Olympus C770 ). Thanks.

Look into Pentax Optio MX4. It has 10x zoom, MPEG4 in Quicktime format among other features. The camera resembles a video camera more than a still camera, so it has all the features you come to expect from a video camera like EIS and zoom during recording.

See the link: http://www.pentaximaging.com/product...mera--OptioMX4

Here is a review in Japanese from which you can download sample pictures and videos: http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/re...12/22/605.html

Pentax seems to view the MX series as low priority product. I am a bit dismayed by that, as I see the future will be hybrid video/still cameras like Sanyo Xacti, JVC Everio and Pentax MX series.

It looks more like a video camcorder than a camera. Thanks for the info.

And Sony Handycam IP. I think it's real 10x zoom taking mpeg-4 movies, on miniDV tapes.

And I think Sanyo Xacti C and Pentax MX are more like DV than DC. And their zoom is still only 5x ???

That's quite a list. Thanks so much.

Pentax MX has been discontinued, MX4 has 10x optical zoom and 10x digital. Zoom does make noise if you zoom fast and there is pin drop silence!! Its got a powerful flash and a super macro mode, you can buy it just for the photos, video is not bad either, in low light its a bit blurry (but unlike a normal camcorder like say Sony TRV27 it gains lot of light in low light situations). Good buy for under $250.

I had this Pentax camera, it fell down one day (can't say it was a big smash really) and this broke the main circuit, the sensor and some other parts. Outside the camera didn't get any damage, and Pentax told me there was no repair for it. I really didn't like that, was kind of a too delicate camera for me.

However, the camera took quite good pictures, had manual focus, shutter speed and aperture priorities and manual settings, good zoom, etc. Video is OK but not outstanding. However, I still can't believe that it's such a delicate camera.

I god myself a Canon S2 IS hoping I will get better results. This one can record video with stereo sound at [email protected], and as with the pentax, you can zoom during recording.
