I am looking for a camera that can take good photos indoors and has good quality HD video. I also want something that I can take to a family event and not feel like I am "photographer". I hate to spend $500, but the only camera that seems to meet my specifications is the LX5. I want to get something good because this may be the last holiday season we have my grandmother around, and I don't want to take any chances with poor quality..

Any other cams I am missing?

The lx5 is an excellent camera, it is one of the better high end bridge camera on the market.

The canon s95 may be another camera to consider also.

So if you want to capture those moments, the LX5 is a very good option.

It may not be a true bridge camera, but it does allow for an external flash and shooting in manual mode.

But most importantly. The lx5 do perform well in low light indoor conditions. That the op is trying to capture photos in.

Sad really sad...I mentioned they LX5 the other day and now it's a High End Bridge Camera...lol...

Could you tell us why you feel the LX5 is not for you? Size, Price, Looks of the camera, lacks certain functionality or capability or ... ? That would certainly help determine what might work for you.

If its price, take a look at the LX3. It has a lower price, less zoom, but still a very capable unit.

Other camera you might want to consider is the canon s95 and nikon p7000. But the white lx5 is a nice looking camera.

It may not have a higher optical zoom, it has ability to record images in Raw + JPEG format some others shoturtle mentioned so we can't say exactly it is not a high end bridge camera.

we should focus on OP's request and LX5 is good choice imo.

Yes, it is a good choice with very good high ISO capability, but a limited zoom range, and a high price. It is like saying yes, the GF-1 is also a good camera, but then a realistic budget might have been overlooked as well.

The limited zoom range is a moot point for the OP since most of his pictures will be indoors. I don't know about its capabilities for good HD video. It is a high price but for what the OP stated for his needs it is not a good time to make a compromise when a loved one may not be around much longer.
