Middle aged and struggling with 1.8" monitor

I currently have a Minolta DXImage and find the small monitor exceedingly frustrating. I hate holding camera at arms length to take my pix. I do not need more than 4-5 MP but I love the feel of the Nikon 7600 grip and would prefer to use AA batteries than schlepping extra batter & recharger on trips. Would love a recommendation. Thanks.
