As mentioned in the subject, im looking at "swapping" (since im getting a good price) my R707 with a Dimage 7i. Any opinions on whether im doing the right thing?
My R707 is quite new, but the dimage is 3years old. I guess im looking at more manual controls, without having to pay for an SLR. Thanks!!! |

Go for it!
Minolta 7i is perfect for learning manual controls. And after it you don't want to even think using camera with worse than 28mm wide angle. (and without mechanical zoom) For its features that's very good trade. You just have to get good charger and good NiMH batteries because this camera is very good "battery tester". But if you don't want to play with those Digipower DPS-9000 should work well. You can download its manual from here if you want to check it. http://www.konicaminoltasupport.com/...i_om000.0.html Despite of it being power hungry I took over 4000 shots in two years that I had it. These pics "with previews" I took in week long trip. I have a D7i and my only knock on it is that it doesn't buffer raw shots. With 10 or so seconds of write time you will miss a lot of shots in dynamic situations. That write time can double if you use a slow card. I use best quality JPG for shots in dynamic situations, which defeats one of the advantages of the camera. The raw files are also rather large for a 5Mp camera. Other than that it is a great camera for its time.
If you can find a cheap D7iH it does buffer raw. |
