As a photojournalist, I shoot in places where loud DSLR mirror slap would be unacceptable such as in theaters, churches and government meetings. I am moving up substantially to a new level of camera. I am seriously considering the Fuji S9000 as the best quiet alternative to a DSLR, but of course a DSLR is superior overall. Question: Which DSLR is the quietest? I know for a fact the Canon 20D is way beyond acceptable having experienced a photographer recently shoot at a funeral. Thanks.

16 views and not one response. Must not be an issue for DSLR users.

Looks like that isn't much commented in reviews... they talk about mirror sounds only when talking about how fast cameras can take photos:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/page6.asp You might want to check Sony R1, practically it uses DSLR sensor but otherwise it's much like non-SLR digicams and it doesn't have mirror. (live preview wouldn't work with it) http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscr1/ And here's general comparison of performance/usability between DSLR and top end prosumer. http://www.neocamera.com/feature_dslr.html |
I agree that the R1 looks fabulous for your purposes.
I wish my 20D were quieter. Actually it's just about the only substantial criticism I have of it. An extract from an article for you... Quote:
