First off, is there something wrong with my brand new Kx?
![]() Okay, in AV mode, using just the viewfinder (and not LV), I'll set (for example) the F to 5.6, and if shutter speed automatically adjusts to say 1/30..........when I switch over to LV, the shutter speed will change to 1/15 and give a brighter (and usuallybetter) picture. Why is the Shutter speed changing when I switch from viewfinder to LV in AV mode? Is this normal? Anyway, this is my very first DSLR, and after reading a couple of books (The Digital Photography Book Vol 1 & Understanding exposure) I ventured out today for the very first time to take a few pictures. These were taken aprox 20 min after sunset and it was overcast. I took them in AV mode with the 18 - 55 kit lens on a tripod I messed around with all the settings until I was able to get these shots which looked pretty close (maybe a bit brighter, especially the sky) to what I was actually seeing with the naked eye. The first gazebo shot has the WB set to cloudy (for a warmer shot) and the second to auto. I'm having a blast learning! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The first shot was taken at 10 seconds, f/18 and an Exposure Bias Value of -0.7EV.
The second shot was taken at 15 second, f/22 and an Exposure Bias Value of -1EV. There's a lot more that's different here than just the fact that one was shot with the OVF and the other was shot with LV.

I didn't include any sample shots that pertain to the issue I'm having switching between viewfinder and LM. Thank you! Dominick Last edited by Braciola; Sep 28, 2010 at 3:28 PM. |

Okay, I just took these two pictures in AV mode on a tripod.
The ONLY thing I did different between the two is switch from LV (first picture) to viewfinder (second picture) The camera took it upon itself to change the shutter speed. I can't figure out why this is happening. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Braciola; Sep 28, 2010 at 4:44 PM. |

Yeah, there is a different. In Liveview the metering seems works a little differently then the metering with the ovf it seems or the programing make the liveview expose longer.

If there is something wrong with the camera, then I'm going to have to return it for another. I got it from amazon, so I still have some time left to figure out if this is "normal" for the camera to be doing. Thanks again! Dominick |

I will be borrowing my brothers camera this weekend, and will check it out. But from my iso testing I did with it back in march. It seem normal. The AE seems to be tied to the different AF system. The liveview seems to need a bit more light with the contrast base system, vs the ovf and the phase detect system.
