Hello, I am looking for advise on what "compact" camera to get. I want something that is pocketable, has a minimum of 4MP, uses SD cards, can take decent photos in low light (>200 iso), and has zoom/focus during movie mode. Image stabilization would be another plus.
Some of the products I was checking out include: Panasonic z8 - has IS and SD card, but it doesnt do zoom during video. Kodak V530 - 5MP, SD card, video zoom, but no IS Minolta DiMage X1 - sd card, IS, zoom during movie, but only goes to 200 ISO Sony, Olympus, and Canon models do not use SD cards so they are not being considered. Do they even make a compact camera that does what I am looking for? |

I saw that cam at http://www.dcresource.com/
it may be compact, but doesnt appear small enough for pocket. Perhaps I am looking for "ultra compact"?? So far I am leaning toward the Kodak V530 or V550. It just lacks IS, thats all. I am going to recheck the other canon models, but I believe none of them have IS. thanks! |

Check out the Pentax WPi - it's very tiny, 6MP, and WATERPROOF.
I've just begun to notice dust inside My Minolta Xi and am thinking of going to the WPi - if water can't get in, dust should not, either! Not sure about all your movie needs - I hardly ever use that, but check it out! -Erik |

This camera was just announced, but what about the panosonic Lumix DMC-FX01? It's small, has image stablization, can go up to ISO 1600, has 28mm wide angle, 2816 x 2112 resolution, and 3.6 optical zoom, all for $350 USD. Uses SD cards, too. Sounds like it could be worth the wait.
