I would appreciate some suiggestions for a beginner. I don't think anybody can take a worse pic than me. I need suggestions for a good beginner digital that is not real expensive.
I also have the problem of my glasses. I have to take them off to see what's in the view finder, yet without them I can walk into a pole and say excuse me sir! LOL I have a prism factor. I don't see a straight line more than a little ways in front of my face without my glasses. I may look through the view finder and think I am getting the shot, but when I get the pictures developed they are a mess. They are blurred and the subjects are all off center or missing half of the subject. I guess I am looking for somethign that is inexpensive, easy to handle and operate, quality shots and one that tells me the pic is lines up if there is such a thing. Oh and one one more thing. One that has easy instructions to to download. Real uncordinated and computer illerate here. Appreciate any help and advice. Pony |

How is your near vision? If it is good you might consider a camera with a good large LCD that is decent in bright light and just use that. Many have a grid pattern they will display on the LCD.
Many viewfinders have a diopter correction. You might go to a store and see if any will correct enough so you can get a decent view. Friends just bought a Kodak V550 and I'm impressed with the LCD. It has high resolution and is reasonably bright. Neither are very computer literate and they aren't having problems downloading photos using the Easy Share software. I prefer to not use software to download, but some people like Easy Share. |

Using EasyShare to transfer pictures in Kodak V550, allows them to be auto-RESIZED to fit into the 32MB internal memory in the "My Favorite Mode" to use the V550 as a hi-res LCD album.
W/o EasyShare you have to tediously resize using your own image editor. Otherwise if you simply fit the 5MP images into the 32MB, w/o editing, they will occupy about 10times more space. |

I probably drive the optometrists nuts when I get new glasses (because I want them to be absolutely perfect, and often insist on them making new lenses if they get anything off by even a degree or two (rotation for the astigmatism). It took 3 sets of lenses the last time around before they got them just right (which is about normal for me, and that's using the best "high index" glass they've got). They probably lose money money on mine, despite the outrageous markups. I'm pretty picky about my "spectacles". ;-) But, I'm not so sure your eyesight is the problem from what you're describing (unless I'm misreading between the lines). What type of camera were you using? Sometimes, framing errors are due to parallax error when using a non-DSLR type camera's optical viewfinder at closer ranges. You can get around that type of problem by using the LCD display or Electronic Viewfinder for framing (non-DSLR models), or an optical viewfinder with a DSLR (and some are pretty good, the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D is one example). |
