My old camera, a Canon SD 300, was recently stolen so I need to get myself a new camera. I really liked the size and functionality of the Canon; however, I really did not like the shutter lag.

I have been looking around but it has been some time since I last researched camera's. I have been looking at the Canon SD630 and Casio models.

Really, what is out there for around $400 Canadian ($320ish US) that has the ultracompact design, SD card, fast shutter speed, etc

Also, should I forget the ultra compact design and go for a camera that uses regular batteries instead of battery packs? I like the idea of being able to use regular batteries, but not sure if I need to.

Any help on this matter would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time and input
