edit: this post can be deleted...i am getting so caught up now. a85 - a510 - a520 - 4200 - 4600 :?

this is my first post on these forums but i have read the reviews many times before purchasing a Nikon 4300. i had dropped this camera about 8mo ago and the directional pad on the back stopped working. When i contactec nikon, they had told me it would be about $140+s/h to get it fixed. At that price id rather pickup a new digicam.

I have been flip-flopping between the Nikon 4200 and Canon A85 for the past couple of months. Which would bebetter for me?

the main reason im looking @ nikon is because of the imagequality on my4300 and i like how small the new line is.to be honest, im not too confident in the ability of the 4100/4200/5200 to reproduce images accurately. I dont really use any of the extra features on the 4300 except for the scene modes so i dont think ill need all the features on the A85 either.

As for the Canon, I like the fact that it still uses CF which means i can just use the card from my old camera. Plus i like the fact that the lens's widest setting is 35mm vs nikons 38mm.

how do the two of them compare in image quality? Ive tried comparing the pics on steves review site but the lighting conditions are always different depending on the day he did the review.

i mainly use my camera for taking pictures @ parties (indoors/night) or taking pictures of my hobbies (cars) and work use (taking pictures of finished wiring jobs and equipment)

in need of cliffnotes the main things that concern me:

image quality -color reproduction as well as detail

camera speed - power-on and between shots

range of lens

size - take on a lot of trips for work.

edit: just read up on the A520, and this looks like it ill be my bet over the 85... so nikon4200 or A520
