OK, I need a point-and-shoot.

I swore my next camera would be a DSLR, but I really need a camera right now, and my budget is $200-$250 (250 max). My primary concern is image quality, but manual controls are a must. Anybody want to help me here?

Canon SX130, 249.99 :) with full manuel control! If you don't want to print out your images like 12 MP and if you will see them in your computer screen any P&S with good brand will give the same IQ. Canon with it's brand name and wide angle lens would be good p&s.

for that budget, the sx130is does look like a great cam. good controls, the lens is wider this iteration. looks like a great value so far.

Oh, the SX130 was released already? I was eyeing the SX120, didn't know the SX130 was out already. Most likely candidate so far...

Yes, I will toss in my recommendation as well for the SX-130. It is a very well featured camera with 12X optical zoom (28-336mm), full manual and auto controls and HD video.

Personally, I have been very pleased with the performance of my SX-130. It is a very versatile camera well worth your consideration. If you click on the link below you will find a typical landscape shot that I took with my SX-130.
