You didn't give enough info to answer that question. The E-500 is a great value, but it is aimed more for the amateur market, as it lacks some advanced features found on the E-1 or even the E-300. You need to decide if the missing features are something you use or not. Perhaps this question is better suited for the Olympus dSLR forum.

I own the E-1, the E-300, and the E-500. By far with its sturdy build and weatherproofing, the E-1 is the professional work horse.
