It is very difficult to get info on shutter lag on non-SLR (P&S) cameras. I want to use aP&S as carry-around companion to my Nikon D70s, but the few ones (mostly Nikon)I have tried have all got significant shutter lag. I am specifically referring to the time the camera takes after it acquired focus (e.g. with a half-pressed shutter) to actually record the picture. With the D70, this delay is next to nothing, making the P&S delay a huge irritation.
I have also found that if the flash is involved (which happens often with happy snappy's) the delay gets worse. These delays do not feature in the spec sheets, and I do not have the time or patience to try them all out myself.
Can someone point me in the right direction? I suspect each manufacturer has a different approach to this, which may make it easier. I am looking for a pretty straight forward P&S, moderate zoom, 5-6MP. For the fancy photos I can alway fall back on my D70s. VR is a bonus, not a neccessity.
