Hi all, I am looking for a p&s for a relative as an Xmas gift (male).
Initially 'zoom' was on the list of a must have (optical zoom) so I purchased the Panasonic FZ47 as it was on sale and had good reviews. However, after my playing with it for a bit I've decided to return it as I find holding it somewhat awkward and uncomfortable. Figuring if I found it uncomfortable, the intended gift receiver will also. We've had the Canon SD750 Elph in the past which was well liked and I'm considering going back to those models. IQ (as you can get in a P&S) is of course top on the list, zoom would be nice but I'd stick with the 5x if it means a more comfy fit in the hand. The OP isn't camera savy so jpeg vs raw isn't a consideration as its AUTO all the way for him. The camera would be used for kids playing outside or indoor snap shots. I have the Canon G11 which I quite like but in this case I'd like to keep the value under 300.00 canadian. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I love the feel of the Panasonic FZ cams btw. They aren't the best selling bridge cam ever made by chance. The FZ150 would be my choice in the FZ series though. ![]()

Thanks to you both. I'll look at the Canon SX in person and see how it feels. I like the idea of the panasonics and it looks like a good camera certainly from all the reviews. I guess sometimes it just boils down to personal preference of comfort. Certainly from a technical aspect the FZ series performs really well.

Target has a great deal on the SX130 today, but unfortunately they won't be opening their first store in Canada until 2013. :/
