I'm looking to get a fast, reliable, good point-and-shoot. At the moment I think I've narrowed it down to either the Cannon IXUS70 (SD1000) or the Panasonic DMC-FS3.

The IXUS70 is slightly more expensive but it seems faster and may be better quality: then again, the FS3 has the AUTO function which seems to take better pics without the fuss of setting things up right (a definite plus for me).

Which one is best for me or are there better cameras for around the same price that would be even better??

All point-and-shoot cameras have a full Auto mode, including the Canon IXUS 70. But between those two my preference would be the Panasonic. For nice flash shots also consider the Canon A580, assuming you can still find one.
