Default Panasonic FZ35 Purchase Question

I'm a newbie with minimal experience in the camera world and this will be my first camera.

I wish to purchase the Panasonic FZ35 and wish to buy a filter to protect the lens and possibly the barrell mechanism.

Is the best way to do this is to buy a Pemeraal adaptor and a 62mm Hoya UV filter (I was reading this suggestion on another site)?

If not, any suggestions would be appreciated since I know next to nothing about cameras.

The Pemeraal adaptor is excellent, though expensive. To protect the lens and lens barrel you will need a lens adapter. Bower makes a less expensive adapter that takes 58mm filters. The Bower can easily be found on E-Bay for less than $20.
