I currently own a Kodak P880 and I recently got an offer to trade it for a Almost Brand New Pentax *ist DL? What should I do? Is the 8.0mp worth sticking with the P&S or is it worth the sacrafice of resolution?

Inn-
This is your decision. However, if it were me I would think about the decision this way: which camera is going to offer you morefor the future? P-880 *Great wide angle lens *Ability to use the Kodak P-20 Flash *Restricted to the wide angle format with just 5X optical zoom Pentax 1st DL *Can use any K mount lens *Many lenses available: new orused (at low or e-bay prices) *Can always use, but not restricted to wide angle format * Has a much wider available ISO range to use * Will allow for much greater growth as a photographer *Will offer you some real challenges-both creative and photo learning-growth *Will offer you a way to do some free lance work If this is a straight across the board trade, the 1st DL is in perfect working condition, and you will be getting the Pentax 18-55mm kit lens at least with the DL, which can shoot 27mm wide angle shots, then I would take the deal without any hesitation at all. I took the trade... He was hesitant about the camera not having IS (the Pentax doesn't have it either) but we reached an agreement of 20 dollars difference (cost of cheap tripod) and the DL came withthe kit lens and I did take the trade with very little hesitation.

Good choice. I sold my Kodak P850 after one month to buy the Pentax *ist DL. It was the best photography decision I've made in a long time. Nothing against the Kodak, but dSLRs in general are just much more capable cameras. Ever since the trade, I've had more and more fun taking pictures and learning about photography. That's what it's all about.
Oh, and BTW, I sold the *ist DL after 6 weeks to buy the K100D due to the shake reduction. I was happy with the DL, but reallywanted shake reduction after owning the P850 and the Canon S1 IS. I'm now set. (For now....:-)) Let the lens buying begin!!! Russ |
