My (somewhat elderly) parents have a Canon A60 that they are pleased with except for one thing. The LCD is tiny--1.5"
I'd like to get them a replacement Camera that has a larger LCD. Given that they've figured out how to use the Canon, I'd rather get them another Canon...it takes them awhile to figure out technology. I've seen the Canon A540 and am considering it. This model has far more features than they need, but it's got a nice 2.5" LCD display. Three questions: 1) Can the A540 be used easily enough as a "point-and-shoot" camera? I.e., can they safely ignore all the high-falutin' features and still use it without a hassle? 2) Is there another choice of camera that would be better from Canon? 3) If push came to shove and the Canon wasn't adequate, what nice point-and-shoot with a large display would you recommend? Thanks for any and all help. Lawrence |

Lawrence-
Because the current camera is a 2mp Canon A-60, an upgrade to the Canon A-540 would offer a measurable upgrade and should work well, as your parents are used to Canon and are getting a slightly smaller, but familiar camera in the process. Its a great idea! Initially, I was going to suggest the A-620 which has received such wonderful reviews, but it ony has a 2.0" LCD. MT |

Thanks for the response, MT.
I'm just hoping that the A540 is just as easy for them to"point and shoot" as the A60. |

scruffy-
I am sure the A-540 will be just fine, as it is very much like the current A-60 and it is a very capable camera as well. MT |

My brother-in-law just happens to be in town, and he purchased the A-540 recently, particularly for the 2.5 inch LCD. It's his first digital camera and he's very pleased with it.
