Hello,

I'm a long time lurker but first time poster! I am looking into getting my first digital SLR and I could use some help.. My budget is under $700 right now.

I have taken a few years off from doing photography because of lack of funds to get a new camera but photography was my minor while in college and I am really excited about getting back into it again.

While in college my I loved shooting macro shots with my Canon 35mm film slr camera. I also did some outdoor shooting and lighting studio still life work, but I never really enjoyed doing portraits. I also loved to to shoot with in medium format on a Horseman in black & white film.

Thanks so much in advance!

A lot of folks have found that the best consumer level DSLR camera to transition to on a budget has been the D-40 or D-40X. The kit lens, the Nikkor 18-55mm lens is excellent. The Nikkor 55-200mmVR lens costs right around $(US) 200.00.

Here is a photo sample from my D040X, using the 55-200mmVR lens and the SB-800 flash. The Canon XTI, and Pentax K100D Super are also worth looking at as well. My personal preference is the D-40 or the D-40X.
