I only know enough about digital cameras to be slightly dangerous. I researched for months before I purchased my 1st camera but it has died, forcing me to start this whole process all over again!

I'm a mom of toddler twins and a preschooler so I'm probably not going to take the time to learn all the ins and outs of photography at this stage in my life. I need a camera that will give me the best shots possible right out of the box... But that has the ability to do more as I have time to learn more. I'm not a techno wizard but I am a pretty fast learner.

I like the higher zoom option camerasso Ithink I've limited my search to the Canon S2 IS, Sony H1, or Kodak P850. Most of what I've read seems to indicate that higher zoom is preferable over the higher resolution if I'm not planning on making larger prints (which I'm not).

One thing I didn't like about my old camera was that it was not very fast, especiallywith the red eye reductionfeature activated. I'm not taking sports action photography but I do have 3 wiggly childrenthat aren't into sitting still and posing for the camera so I hate to constantly be missing shots.

I'm leaning towards the Canon (some friends haveone& they love it)but I'm nervous because this is a big money purchase and I want to buy the right one. But I need to make a decision because my husband wanted to buy me this for my birthday (which was at the beginning of this month) but I just can't make up my mind!! Meanwhile I'm missing out on some really good pictures!

Anyone have some words of wisdom for me?

I have the S2, so it gets my vote. Check out what Steve has to say about them. He's the MAN!

I have the KODAK P850 along with a few other rigs, and I vote for the KODAK Z7590. What a wonderfull camera it is. Smaller, lighter, great in the auto mode, all sorts of settings, all the manual settings. With the money saved you can buy add on lenses, filters, and so on.

A picture taken with the DX7590 that has a couple less options. I think the Z7590 will work well, giving you room to grow for much less money. One thing, it's not the status symbol of the other cams
