samsung ex-1 or panasonic lx-5

hi,
im currently using sony T900 p&s.the pictures, specially in low light condition is not that good and almost all of them suffer from noise(grain effect).i was looking for a camera which has wide lens and good at low light.after researching a bit i found out that samsung ex-1 is the best candidate.i was determined on buying that cam but yesterday i came to know from dpreview that panasonic has launched the upgrade of lx-3,the lx-5.i was impressed after reading the spec.
Ex-1 pros:
  • Better lens (f 1.8)
  • better res lcd and fully articulating.
  • dual control dial
Lx-5 pros:
  • bigger sensor (1/1.63 inch vs 1/1.7 inch of ex-1)
  • more zoom reach (3.8x vs 3x)
  • Hd video (720p)
so now im in a complete dilemma.i dont know which one to buy.both of them has a wide angle 24mm lens.pls help me choosing the right one for me.

lx5 vs ex1

ex1 is heavy, "built like a tank" and have a swivel screen. The external controls makes it close to a dslr to use. just fantastic cam, considering the price. If not for the ex1 I would look to Ricohs GR III

We will only know the real answer when we see the first hands-on reviews of the Panasonic LX-5. I have looked at paper specification sheets before and then suddenly seen a big difference between the spec's and the actual camera in everyday use mode.

I too am a Samsung EX-1 user. I just got the camera so I have only begun to develop some experience with the camera. Thus far, I am pleased with the camera and the image quality.

LX 5 has HD, ex1 standard video. The LX 5 has a heck of a good lens from leica.

The the f2 vs the f1.8 is offset by the larger sensor. So they are about even in low light.

Have 90mm reach is better then 70mm of reach. More useable.

On paper, the LX5 edges out the EX1 imho.

PS,

It looks like the LX 5 can use the same electron viewfinder that the gf1 ueses. So it would be useful shooting in bright sun light.

and the lx-5 costs more than the ex-1 (50$)

yeah i like the construction of ex-1....lx-5 seemed like plastic.......but i really do want to go for the bigger sensor of lx-5....hd video doesnt matter that much to me as i have a camcorder.again the articulating display and f1.8 lens are holding me back.
