I just brought a Nikon D50 and confused about all the different speeds and prices on the cards. I understand about the MB and GIG is size but speed is right for my camera? Is the more expensive card necessary? Thanks for responding to my questions, this forum has saved me from may mistakes.

Unless you do a lot of continous shooting (ie. 8+ continous shots), the card's speed wouldn't be a major factor. I have the SanDisk Ultra2, but I think the regular SanDisk is good enough.

I have a standard SD card. It seems to be as fast as the camera can shoot. The camera's (Nikon D50) onboard buffer seems to handle everything I can throw at it up to 2.5fps. I think the D50 can shoot something like 12 shoots before filling the buffer, then the card speed comes into play as the buffere writes to the card. I have never shot that many continuos shots.

I had this same debate and went with the much cheaper standard SD card. It has not made a difference for me. If you were shooting a lot of sports, it might make a difference.

Thank you guys for the information. I know the information I get on these

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"forums is from people "that been there, done that." Thanks for taking the
