Hello,
I've been searching without success for recommendations on a digital camera that can withstand being dropped from a reasonable distance. Something that has a reputation for being able to withstand the occasional bump or drop? Someone dropped my Coolpix 880 about 5 inches (onto a table) and it cost over $200 to get it repaired, so now I want to get a more rugged camera that I can lend out instead. Looking for 2 or 3 megapixel, with good image quality. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, - Frank (also posted this on rec.photo.digital - my apologies forany duplication) |

You have to decide between robustness and image quality. There was a shock resistant camera from Casio, but it's only 1.23mp (it can interpolate to 2mp) with no optical zoom:

Thanks Mike! That helps a lot, and the GV-10 review alsooffers further links to the Kodak DC5000and the Fuji Big Job. These seem to be the only 3 digital cameras that include shock-resistance among their listed features. So I've got at least 3 cameras to propose to my company now.

Hmmm ... I wonder if that's because there's no zoom mechanism on that model (right?). When my Coolpix 880 was dropped, it was the zoom/focusing mechanism that got required repair. Thanks for the info.
