I am looking for a first digital camera, a solid all around performer. It must be compact or ultra-compact for under $500. Image quality is VERY important, 5+ MP, manual controls not very important. I am looking at the Canon SD600, Casio EX-Z7/850, Sony DSC-W50, Panasonic DMC-FX01, Fuji F30. I want the all around best camera from this class. Thanks for the help

i just had the same thing i was looking for a small compact camera i would suggest going to the shop & looking at them Physically first i then narrowed it down to 2 cameras the Panasonic FX01 & the Nikon S6 i didn;t like the look and feel of the canon or casio & the sony's memory is more costly so i narrowed it down to these 2 & plumped for the S6 as it has a docking station but if you don't want a docking station then i'd say go for the FX01 as it has wide screen & looks and feels fantastic a little part of me still wishes i'd bought that one  even though the S6 has done everything i have asked of it
