Hi! This forum is the BEST! Thanks!
I don't know much about cameras so I would appreciate your valuable help. Ineed to buyquiteaffordable (< $350) digital camera for my kids, which should be as small as possible. The "quality" of pics, options, video, etc should match (approx) to Sony DSC-L1 which I have (and like it very much). Which one do you folks recommend? Any experiences? Thanks in advance! - Maache - |

why not stick with sony, that way you can share memory and be a little more familiar with the menu system.
a few you may check out: p200 ~300USD s600 ~200USD or just get another L1? -dustin |

A520 is a great camera, and is inexpensive ($199.99). It's 4 mp's, and has a 4x optical zoom (35- 140mm).The A520 isnot an ultacompact, but its size shouldn't make it a problem to carry around. It's movie mode is 640x480 for 30 sec, and 320x240 or 160x120 for 3 mintues
If you are willing to go a little larger, though, the A610 is one of the best sub $300 dollar cameras you can get, with pictures that will blow you away, and unlimited 640x480,320x240,or 160x120(you can go up to 60fs on 320x240,and 30fps on the rest).I also do not see its size as a problem, and think it is still very portable. Battery life is great too. |

I think I'd go with the Pentax Optio WPi, which is 6Megapixil but much more importantly, is WATERPROOF & therefore probably dustproof - I currently have dust inside the optics of my Konica/Minolta Xi which is otherwise perfect: like the WPi, no protruding lens & prints very good for wall display at least up to 12"x18" even from the Xi's 3MP - just be sure to "Resample" in PS Elements Image>Resize>change pixil count to 300.
