At some point some manufacturers will try to create a super compact DSLR to distinguish their products from the forest of other DSLRs.I remember the Olympus OM-1 was at least 30% smaller than other 35mm film SLRs, and created a minor sensationin the 1970s. The OM-1 body was 136mm x 83mm x 86mm. Pentax followed with their similar sized MX series (nice cameras, I had one). A DSLR could be at least as small as the OM-1,since the sensors in most DSLRs are what35mm camerafolks would call "half- frame", half the size of the conventional 24mm x 36mm frame, but using a regular 35mm film cartridge, and getting twice as many exposures.

....I forgot about the Olympus Pen, a half-frame film SLR, 24mm x 18mm image size, that used 35mm film. It was introduced in 1963.I remember seeing those incamera stores asan 11 year old kid. The Olympus Pen bodywas a tiny 102mm x 64.5 mm x 40mm!. I suppose that would be about the smallest a digitalDLSR could get, since the battery volume could be at least assmall as a 35mm cartridge and the windup chamberon the other side of the camera.

I still have one of those PenF SLR's

I was under the impression that the Pentax line of DSLR's was the smallest, although I have not looked at all the models that are available. The K100D even has shake reduction built into the sensor, so all lenses used on the camera will have the SR feature.
