Just sold my Fuji S9500 - had it for 2 months, my 1st slr stlye and will be my last - it was just too big!!!
So I am now looking for a compact camera with ..
decent optical zoom (3x or more),
low noise butgood iso capabilities,
good all round outdoor/indoor capabilities,
small and easy to slip into jacket pocket,
if possible to take AA batteries as I bought some 2500ma and a decent charger for the s9500
Not fussed about memory type or make of camera
Shortlist so far....
Canon A700 / Canon A710is
If I went for non AA's then I also like the look of the Ixus 800is & FujiF30
Anyone got any other suggestions or knowwhen the C875 and A710is will hit the uk stores?

You may want to consider the Fujifilm F30 which at ISO 800 came close to a Nikon D50 digital SLR in terms of quality. Although the Nikon as expected came out superior, it was a comparison of a compact camera with a price range of $280 -$340 (got mine on eBay for $312 USD incl shipping) vs a $600 + digital SLR.
Comparison of the F30 w/ Nikon D50 here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf30/page14.asp
It was also compared to other compact digital cameras on that review. With side by side pics for comparison.
The F30 is a compact camera with 3x optical zoom. Lithium batteries in my opinion aid with its quick response time and supposedly are good for 580 shots.
Good thing I listened to MT's suggestion about the F30. :-)
At present I am still toying with the idea whether to get an extra battery and battery charger (cheaper on eBay) and another 1gig xD card but at present I really don't take enough photos to justify these extras.
1. 1 GB xD card $40-50 off eBay
2. USB xD card reader capable of reading the 1GB xD card ( I find using the cable cumbersome). $10 off eBay
3. a small Coach credit card pouch given to me now serves as the camera case. FREE :-)
4. magnetic 2x telephoto lens (still in the mail)- don't know why I bought this

I agree, if you dont need a 10x or 12x zoom, and shutter priority, etc.
you dont need an SLR or S9000 or FZ30.
My bro wanted a big zoom, so he just bought a Kodak p850 12x zoom. about the size of the Canon XT.
He cant be bothered with ISO, shutter speed, aperture, exp.comp., DOF, he just
wants to point and shoot, thus he leaves it on auto.
waste of $.
go with the Kodak C330/340.
check out my pics with the c330.
