Hi,
I am looking to get a camera for christmas and was wondering if the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W70 was any good? I cannot afford very expensive cameras but this is in my budget. It would be used for holidays and personal photographs, however, I am considering taking photography at college which would require me to have a good camera as well. What are your views?
Also, I am so new at digital cameras, please don't laugh, but can someone explain the memory cards to me? For a sony camera can you ONLY USE sony memory cards?
thanks!

Several of my students use that camera and it takes excellent photos ... and it is available for under US$250 now. For personal use, and a size that is amenable to keeping it on your person at all times it isone of severalextremely well-provisioned cameras (however, be awareI amquite biased towardSonyand Canon, even though other brands are equally as good).

Nonetheless, it would be my suggestion to wait until you see the course syllabussince some profs want you to use a "full manual capable" camera so you can learn and experience theins and outs of the interrelationships between speed, ISO, and aperture. I would abide by their desires for the course; then, when you have a sound knowledge of what to look for and what you desire to do with your camera, make the correct-for-you purchase!
