Default SONY DSC-HX100V or CANON SX230HS

Hi everyone,

Need an honest opinion on which camera should I choose. I have narrowed my options down to Canon SX230HS & Sony DSC-HX100V. I dont have any issue on camera size / compactness. What I want to know is:
1- which one is better at night photography? (without tripod or added support)
2- As far as features and shooting modes are concerned which one is genuinely worth buying?

Thanks in advance

None, before you also take a look at the Panasonic FZ150.Why restrict yourself to those two you mentioned?

Interesting pair to compare... a "compact"(ish) Canon and a "bridge" Sony.
Perhaps the Canon SX40HS would be a fair fight against the Sony HX-100V..?
And as wanaclick suggests, throw in the fabulous FZ-150 into the mix also.

With regards night use- the above mentioned all sport a type of CMOS sensor, which do produce decent low light shots(by compact standards),though in my opinion, the Sony would be in last place here- with the Canon in top spot, followed pretty closely by the Panny'.
Features wise- the Panasonic would be king here for me.
If by features, you mean toys- like GPS,Panoramic stitching etc- Sony usually throws plenty of such things in the mix. If however, you mean genuine photographic tools, with a whole host of adjustable parameters(both in Pic and Video) and the ability to "add on"- filters, external mic's etc- the Panasonic is definitely number 1.
