Looking to upgrade to either the Fuji S5200 or the S9000. I'm focusing on these two because, from what I read, they are fast cameras.

I often miss shots (kids sports and activities) because with my current Olympus, I have to anticipate them. From what I read, both these new Fujis start up quick and snap a shot quickly too.

I consider myself a casual photographer. If the picture quality of these two cameras are comprable, is the extra $250 or so for the S9000 worth it? Is it faster than the S5200?

The first full review that I have seen ofeither camera may be read here:

It's worth taking a look at. I was very interested in thiscamera (as a spectator only -- I'm not in the market for another camera right now) and was rather surprised by how mediocre the images were at the higher speeds. FWIW

The Fuji S-5200/S-5600 is, I believe slightly smaller than the S-9000 digital camera. In reviewing the sample photos from both cameras the S-5200 look a bit better.

My S-5200 arrives tomorrow, so I will soon be able to give you a better "hands-on" report.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 5200 is better in the noise department -- it has 5 Mpixels instead of 9. The impression I've been getting is that 9 MP is just too dense for current technology in the small chip sizes. They fit nicely on the dSLR-size chips, but the state of the art just doesn't seem to support them in the ultrazoom class camera yet. I would be very interested in seeing a real review of the 5200, but so ffar I haven't come across one. Maybe you can provide one for us?

Yes, I could do that. As I have already noted, Iam not scheduled toreceive the Fuji s-5200 until tomorrow (10/19). However, I will begin shooting photo samples asap and will do the so called review via a series of posts regarding the Fuji S-5200.

Way to go, zoom...lots of pics - especially available light, without flash, and of moving subjects. Too much to ask for?

No, it is not an unreasonable request. Just keep in mind that the results will come in a string of e-mails spaced regularly over a number of days. Perhaps covering a 10 to 17 day period. I will try, but I do not guarantee to be absolutely rapid responsive to ALL of your requests. After all I am just one overworked woman already taking care of a handicapped husband.

I'm in no rush. I'm very happy with my S5100, but I must admit, I'm intrigued by the shorter lag times, ISO 1600 capability and additional MP the 5200 offers. If the picture quality of the S5200 is as good as the S5100, and the new and improved features are as promised, I might consider treating myself to a new toy in the not so distant future.

Thanks in advance for your efforts, and good luck with your new camera.

Thanks for your confidence. I really promise to turn to, providing that I receive the Fuji S-5200 tomorrow (10/19).

The Fuji S-5200 arrived just 5 minutes ago. Here is the very first shot. It was an "auto everthing" shot. The details are taged on the photo. I will set up some ISO 800 and 1600 shots next.
