Ok, I've reached the point where I must make a purchase decision as we leave for our European vacation in 2 1/2 weeks. I've been agognizing over a high-end point and shoot versus the Canon XT dSLR - primary concern is I'd like to buy a camera that I can rely on to take high quality "vacation" photo's as well as good action shots of my kids sports teams. Everthing I've read suggests there is no point and shoot currently on the market that can handle fast action sport shooting (too much shutter lag), other than maybe the new Fuji S9000 (which seems to get knocked for not having image stabilization and potentially low-light issues).

So, if I am to go with the Canon XT, I'd appreciate reccomendations on which lens(es) I should consider.

I would say that the newer cameras like the Fuji S-9000/S-5200, The Sony R-1, and the new Kodak P-850 when have virtually no shutter lack are real possibilities.

The average dSLR user invests from $1000 to $1200 in a dSLR set up. I know because I own one. Check out the alternatives, you may save money.

Thanks. A challenge (for me) is timing - I need to make the purchase in the next 2 weeks & I don't believe the Fuji and Sony cameras are yet available. So, if I do go with the Canon, I'd welcome any reccomendations on lenses.

Thanks again.
