Both are good, just visit a camera store and play with both, whichever feels better in your hands and where controls are easier and more comfortable for you - this is your camera. Both are capable of great image quality and both systems have a very good selection of lenses and accessories, so it's down to ergonomics and personal preferences.

Erin,
You also need to consider lens and accessory needs as well. This can be tough to do if you're just starting out and have no particular needs identified yet. For example, Nikon has a much better flash system than Canon - not just the units themselves, but built in wirless capability and better flash exposure metering. Canon on the other hand offers some excellent lenses (70-300 IS USM, 70-200 f4, 70-200 f4IS) that many enthusiasts enjoy and Nikon has no corresponding lenses of comparable price / quality In general you'll find the cameras themselves line up along the prices - the Nikon has a few more features and thus it costs more money. That's the way it is with Canon & Nikon - their cameras below the pro bodies don't line up directly - they stagger each other in feature set and cost. |
