Are there any of the small, pocket-size cameras that are equipped with a view-finder, in addition to the LCD screen? It seems as though, when the first of these compact cameras started coming out, you could find one with a view-finder but then they started disappearing as the LCD screens grew larger. TIA

G'day Dave
Agree with your observations - viewfilders disappeared long ago ... Mostly [it seems to me] because the vf could not keep up with the lens zoom once the zoom was more than 3x or 4x Hope this helps... Regards, Phil

Optical viewfinders can't keep pace with the zoom ratios of the lenses in P&S cameras, and electronic viewfinders just duplicate the LCD monitors which increases the cost, some would say unnecessarily. Also, many P&S cameras use touch sensitive LCD monitors in lieu of controls, and without controls, you can't do much with an electronic viewfinder. Plus your cheek or nose could make a change to the camera's settings while you're looking through the viewfinder, which will really complicate things.

Then you'll have to pay for it.

I also find the optical viewfinder a necessity for any camera I get. I can't see the LCD screens in daylight. Canon seems to be one of the last manufacturers who offer this. My wife has a A1200 and is very happy with it. (My son and I also have Canons, purchased partly due to the availability of the optical viewfinder - Canon, are you listening??).
