I guess I have similar needs in a compact camera - 28mm, Image Stabiliser, Low noise at 1600iso.
My short-list is - Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 Fuji Finepix F30 Olympus Stylus 750 Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Ricoh Caplio R5 Minimal noise at 1600iso = F30 + ??? Image Stabiliser = 750 LX2 R5 28mm Wideangle = LX2 R5 200mm Tele = R5 F2.8 = Z1000 F30 LX2 10 Megapixel = Z1000 LX2 16:9 option = Z1000 LX2 Large sensor = Z1000 F30 LX2 Manual Focus = Z1000 LX2 R5 Focus at infinity, 2.5m = R5 Shutter Aperture display = F30 LX2 Exposure Bracketing = R5 Last 3 shots = F30 Interval timer = R5 A/S/M exposure control = Z1000 F30 LX2 SD card = Z1000 LX2 R5 RAW output = LX2 LCD >200,000 pixels = all Flash + Non-flash photo = F30 Programmable Button Function = R5 Two User Profiles = R5 Automatic Lens Cap = Z1000 F30 750 R5 Any other suggestions ? Maybe I'll have to wait until Fuji announce their upgrade for a full-control compact to go between the F30 and S6000 that use a 6th generation sensor. It could be a while, since it wasn't included in the Fuji Photokina announcements. |

hi zigo, I have yours needs, too, looking for a compact with IS. I'm waiting for the panasonic lx2 reviews, I really like the 16:9 AR.
Seen around mixed bags pictures, some wonderful, others just decent... look at dc.japan pictures -posting from mobile and don't have the link, actually - it's much better than R4,IMHO. Will keep an eye on R5, though...if you find something interesting please post! |

From what I've read about the LX2, it's not much different from the LX1. If anything, the picture quality is arguably worse due to in-camera noise reduction and softening. I can't remember now where I've seen the discussions relating to photos published on a Japanese website (it could have been on here or dpreview.com) but they are somewhere. Considering the difference in price because it's a new model, I really didn't deem it worthwhile. Incidentally, I purchased my LX1 from a retired ex-professional photographer on ebay for £185 which included an extra battery, 512Mb SD card and soft case, still with 5 months warranty and in mint condition. I admit I've been a bit fortunate but you can find auctions frequently going for around the £200-220 mark.

Sure you got a great deal, so be happy with the lx1....but I think the lx2 will be a good step forward, for people still undecided.
In the 3d you linked there are many images, and most people (me too!) seem to think lx2 images are sharper, cleaner, and at least as (or more) detailed as the one shooten with the lx1, so maybe a good way for us too lazy for bothering with PP and RAW shooting to have a great camera... For a very good comparison in controlled environment (drawn your own conclusion) see here: http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/re...8/22/4436.html Personally, I think panasonic it's just not there with colours vibrancy and accuracy, still, in respect to canon and olympus (I own a fz20...ouch....), but oly and canon cameras are somewhat really limited on features and "tech factor".....which is real sad! |

I'm assuming LX2 image quality will be much like the FZ50, since they both use the same sensor - main difference is the lens.
