I'm new to the forums. I have seen some reviews and user comments but I can't decide myself.
Things I want: - Optical zoom - Big LCD screen - Manual shooting modes - Decent resolution to get 13x18 pictures - Good flash recycling time - Not too expensive I think that I have no more requests by now. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hm, I don't think that I will take a specific type of photography. I like to take daylight outdoor pics, night shots, and some indoor ones.

OK, just wanted to check that you weren't looking to shoot sports or nature as these will need different equipment to portrait, landscape etc.
Now I have asked that are you looking a dSLR or a fixed lens camera (I'm not very clued up on the latter)? |

It sounds like you will probably be interested in a fixed lens superzoom. An interchangeable lens DSLR can provide better quality, but that would be at least twice the cost, and requires some effort on the part of the photographer (usually including both understanding cameras settings, and knowing how to use post processing software on the computer). They also won't have movie modes.
"Not too expensive" can mean different things to different people, but you will probably want to look at the Sony H3, Canon S3IS, and Fuji S6000fd. These all are currently selling at around $375 in the US. If price is a big concern, I would also look at the more recent Kodak models, the Z612, Z650, and Z710. At current prices, they seem to be running a good $100 less than models from Canon and Sony with comparable features. I didn't knew the models you told me, so I read the reviews and they're all excellent cameras, but I'm not looking for a 'high-end' one. Thank all of you.
The A710 IS gets closer to what I want, only that I want to spend less money. What about the Canon A540? I've seen the A6**s but they use 4 AA batteries and I want a camera that uses 2 (or a propietary battery instead). Thanks again! This is helping me so much  (excuse my poor english) |

If 2 batteries is a must, then the A540 is a good choice.
