My Minolta Dimage 7Hi just died for the secon time.... A friend suggested (in front of my wife), that it might be time to step up to a new camera with interchangeable lens. To my surprise she thought it was a great idea.

I shoot landscape (working on a tabletop book of Wyoming landscapes), wildlife (birds, moose, deer, antelope, etc., and I am interested in macro. I think I have decided on the Canon 50d, 24-105L zoom, 100-400L tele, and still investigating the macro lens for down the road perhaps. I don't shoot a lot of low-light situations but.... who knows. What do you think about this combo? Thanks!

Why don't you take a look at the Landscape Photosand Wildlife Photosto see what other people are using?

The 24-105 is a fantastic lens, but on a 50d that's 38mm equivelent - not very wide. Make sure you're OK with that before plunking down the money on that particular lens.

For wildlife, the 100-400 is a versatile lens and is fairly sharp and it's light enough to hike around with. But, keep in mind 400mm isn't very much reach in the grand scheme of things. But it's a very good start. If you don't need the zoom as much, the 400mm 5.6 prime is a great lens as well and it will save you some $$. Another option that is a bit heavier but gives you more reach is the Bigma (Sigma 50-500).
