Hey, I am a new realtor and am looking for a simple to use point and shoot digital camera that will allow me to take wide angle shots right out of the box without the need for an additional lens. Any suggestions and/or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Check out Costco online. It is selling the Kodak P880 for $269. Great wide angle - 24mm. OK moderate telephoto - 140mm.
Go here to check prices at other etailers: http://steves-digicams.pgpartner.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=12208653/search=kodak |

Kodak P880 may be rather too large to be considered "compact". If you are looking for a camera that can fit comfortably in a jacket/blazer pocket, the Kodak v705 and v570 both have a 23mm wide-angle lens.
Compact cameras that have 28mm lenses (still 20% wider than a typical 35mm) include Canon S80 (known for being popular among Realtors) and the Panasonic FX01/FX07. All 3 of these cameras have Optical Image Stabilization. robbo wrote: Quote:

If 28mm is sufficient the Canon SD800is or Panasonic FX01 are pocket cameras with stabilization to help in limited light. The SD800 is a new model and pricier but it has an optical viewfinder and better ISO 400 noise. The Canon S80 is a little larger and has manual controls but no stabilization. All three are excellent.
The Kodak V705 gives a very wide angle of 23mm but if it is set up like the previous dual lens Kodaks you have to use digital zoom to get from 23mm to 38mm where the regular zoom starts. That might not be a problem for online listings and small prints, but as a personal camera I would consider it a fixed 23mm with a regular 38 – 117 zoom with nothing in between. It has in-camera panorama stitch that would give you a very wide angle if you held the camera with the long side up. If size isn't a consideration the Kodak P880 would be the camera of choice IMO. The Nikon 8400 also had an excellent 24mm zoom but it is out of production and you would have to buy it used or refurbished. |
