I am new to DSLR and want to take the first step past my point and shoot. I am having a hard time deciding between the xti and 30d. I like the 10+ megapixelof the Xti but would like the spot metering of the 30d and slightly faster fps. I am planning on buying a combo starter kit on ebay and only find a few hundred dollars diff.
style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000" Please offer some suggestions I may be over looking and I prefer to stay with the Canon line. style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Thank You, style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000" Kevin |

What you plan to shoot (since you mentioned higher fps of 30d). And why spot metering?

A lot of my photos are outdoor photos, (I live in the country). I also do a lot of action shots. One of my other hobbies is RC aircraft and like to freeze midair shots. the rest is just portraits and family photos.

I recently made a decision between the xti and the 30D and bought the 30D. I am extremely happy with it. I made my decision for the following reasons:
1) I bought it to shoot sports (baseball and swimming), so I thought the 5 fps on the 30D would be better. It works great. Make sure you get a fast memory card. 2) Many natatoriums where I shoot swimming are not well lit. Therefore, I wanted the ability to shoot at ISO 3200, which is only possible with the 30D. 3) The 30D is slightly bigger which is more confortable in my hand - the xti felt small. 4) The spot metering was not a big consideration, but it has come in handy. Good luck. |

Can we possibly see some indoor swimming shots. I am also considering the Canon 30D. Thanks!

I posted 2 on 12/10 under the Sports & Action photos, labeled "Swimming" Subtitle "Backstroke". Both were taken in very poor lighting.
SPY posts a lot of swimming photos. Look for his, too. |

Freezing RC aircarft shouldn't be that hard for either one of them. BTW I do use 30d as I find Xt/XTi to be small and weired in a way that I can't describe. Just say, I don't like them. |

Some golf, some air rc aircraft. I also like the size and weight of the 30D.
