Hi All,

What are your expert thoughts on the new Canon SD900 for a beginner? I am looking for a very portable camera that takes great shots inside and outside. IS is important to me. I have heard this camera is a no brainer to use. I have typically owned various Sony Cybershots but with this last model the color in the pics aren't good at all.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Best regards,
Mara

I'm interested in the new Canon model, too. But I'm looking for a camera that can record movies in more or less good quality. Movie samples from the earlier SD700 looked very good and didn't have many visible compression artefacts. But the sound quality was bad. It sounded like my mobile phone's voice recordings.

So it would be better to check this feature in detail when reviews of the SD900 are available.

I hadn't thought of that. Actually, the 900 doesn't have IS but the new 800 does have IS. Since that is an important feature to me, someone said I should consider the 800. I hope they improved the sound quality - that would really be too bad - I hadn't read that about the 700. Thank you and I will take note and see about the sound.

Okay. Please let me know about the sound. If you got a movie sample... :-)

Anyone know if the sd900 can zoom while in movie mode? I was interested in the sd800, but just read a review that it says you cannot zoom in movie mode on that camera.

Thanks.
