My heart is set on the Nikon D200 but my mind is telling me Canon EOS D5 for its full frame sensor. The question is, would the Nikon D200 quality be comparable to the Canons full frame sensor?

Although I have absolutely no first hand experience with either of them, (so don't take this too serious) I'd say no, it won't be comparable.

I've heard that the D200 can get fairly noisy, due to the smalller effective pixels, a problem that would logically be decreased with the bigger sensor.

I think it depends:

Can you spare the extra 2000$ ? If not, go for the D200, D80 or Canon 30D. (something I would do. 3000$+ for a camera is rediculous unless you're very rich)

Do you absolutely need extreme wide-angle? If so, go for the 5D, without a FOV crop factor you'll get the same angle as with a film camera. Just don't buy a "made for digital" lens...(EF-S in Canon terms I think)

If money is not an option then Canon 5D is a no brainer.

Both camera's are fantastic, the question you should be asking yourself is not "do I want a full frame sensor?" but is What photography do you do? The D200 (imo) is buildt better than the 5D, the 5D exterior plastic feels cheap compared to the D200, also the D200 is faster and (imo) has a better metering system. The 5D does have less noise - this I have tested and proven - however the D200 is so much cheaper and that money would be better used on a higher grade lens thanan extra few mil on the sensor size.

If the majority of your photo's are going to be landscape night photo's, get the 5D, if you're doing anything else, get the D200.
