How old are your "old" lenses?

Canon has dropped all old lenses support when introduced EF mount.

Nikon has better compatibility with old lenses.

Pentax DSLRs support all lenses ever made for Pentax cameras.

Don't know about KM/Sony.

So, The best old lense backward compatipility has Pentax, Canon has the worst.

The Sony is compatible with virtually every minolta maxxum/dynax mount lens, and that mount was introduced 20 years ago approximately. Basically if it's AF, you're good to go. New technology is the distance encoding, which is less than 5 years old, but is just an extra toy.

D is not to be confused with DT, which is digital technology, ie the explicitly APS-C size lenses.

The biggest weakness is the flashes, and for automatic control only the minolta 5600HS(d) and the 3600HS(d) are guarenteed to work on the digital bodies (both flashes are also made by sony with a new model number). However, it has an internal flash, and it's safe to assume they all will because it's a key component of the wireless flash system.

True enough, but that's close to 20 years ago now.
