When I first started looking fo a new camera recently I started off like yourself thinking kodak only....

this was due to my experience with a kodak point & shoot camera, its reliability and the customer service.

So I started looking at the Z612 and then considered both the P850, P880 and Z712, but with each camera there was something missing that mattered to me, so this is when I started considering other manufacturers. this gave me a big headache because there are so many facts and figures to contend with and so many different opinions. :?

Honestly with the non-DLSR super zooms I don't think there is that much in it, from one manufacturer to the next or one model to the next. You will see many fantastic (nay, amazing!) photos taken by all of them! Imho, what you absolultey must do is decide on the most important feature you want (maybe the most important 2 or 3 even) and then weigh things up.

in the end I didn't go Kodak. I went for a Canon Powershot S3 IS - so far I have in no way been dissapointed. Also this camera (and others) can with the addition of a lens adapter then allow you to add macro, wide angle, fish eye and tele converters for extra reach and give you the ability to add filters. relatively inexpensive if you just want to improve a few things, but before going mad with the extras you should consider an entry level DLSR imo.

so no clear answer I'm afraid, just a few more thoughts

when it comes to making the decision, its nobody's decision but yours I'm afraid!

Thank you for being so nice. I have decided on a panasonic 6.0 dmcfz7s. Anyone got any opinions on this one?

I will check out the canon.

It's ok. I know it's taken me a little while to decide. But I think this is the one. I will buy it. Can I put a telephoto lens on it?
