I need it is like asking the moon, but checking all the cameras ever this is what i actually need: Basically, I want a digital camera (compact cos i will need to travel and big cameras can be painful) with a wide angle of 28mm or less and with a zoom that gets to at least 200mm. When I checked a few months ago, there was the ricoh r4 or r5 but people have been telling me that the ricoh lenses are not that good. is it true and can you suggest me any other camera.
Thank you very much for your help, it is very appreciated.

Looks like if you insist on having a compact with a 28 to 200 mm zoom, you don't have many choices. I don't see much out there other than the Ricoh. To be honest, I wasn't all that impressed with the picture quality in these two reviews:

You might want to check out the Ricoh section of this forum for some feedback.

Hi,
thanks for the answer. Thinking over it, then I think that I can deal with a bigger camera, so would anyone know of any other good camera (not necessarily compact) but with the above characteristics?
Thanks a lot again.

Most of your megazoom cameras start out around 35mm, and go up to 350 to 400 or so. There are a couple of Fuji's that have the range you're looking for...The S6000, and S9000, both have 28mm to 300mm. There's also a Sony F828 (28 - 200 mm), but it's 2003 technology.
